O Eve! sets a remarkable text by Sister Columba Guare of the Sisters of the Mississippi Abbey in Iowa, in which the Virgin Mary consoles Eve, whom she addresses as "my mother, my daughter" with the news that "I am with Child, through whom all will be reconciled." The poem offers a strikingly new, yet orthodox, perspective on the Incarnation.   THe SATB version was premiered in Leicester, UK in December, 2007 by "Coro Nostro," conducted by my good friend and gifted interpreter, Dr. Robert Kenny. The work is dedicated to Dr. Kenny and the choir, who offered me such a warm reception last December when they presented the European premiere of my "O Magnum Mysterium." .

This recording is of the premiere of the SSAA setting, given on 8 December 2007, in Glasgow, UK, by the outstanding University of Glasgow MADRIGIRLS, conducted by Katy Cooper, a grad student at the University.

Text of O Eve!

My mother, my daughter, life-giving Eve,

Do not be ashamed, do not grieve.

The former things have passed away,

Our God has brought us to a New Day.

See, I am with Child,

Through whom all will be reconciled.

O Eve! My sister, my friend,

We will rejoice together,

Life without end.
